The Participation of the Community Development Portal (Kenana Online) in the 3rd National Forum for Civil Society Organizations
In a novel attempt to directly reach Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the Community Development Portal (Kenan Online) participated in the 3rd national forum for CSOs. The event took place from the 10th till the 11th of May, 2009, under the sponsorship of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, and was held at the Movenpick Hotel in the Egyptian Media Production City.
The main topics of the forum were:
- Enhancing the role of CSOs in development,
- Harmonizing between the priorities of international and local development,
- The ethical standards of CSOs, and the government’s role in providing a favorable atmosphere for CSO activities.
The Community Development Portal (Kenana Online) participated in the knowledge exhibit of the forum, which provided a value added to the strategies of connecting CSOs to knowledge sharing portals. The various CSOs and NGOs present were introduced to the issues addressed under Kenana Online such as; children, children’s rights, the environment, disabilities, health, participatory development, youth development, women’s empowerment,…etc.
The exhibit was held under the title: Now, Own Your Official Website… Free.
It displayed the variety of services offered by Kenana Online, and especially that which provides users with the ability to create their own websites free of charge. This service gained much interest among volunteers working in different organizations, as they could use it to display and market their services and activities using very simple methods, as well as gain the support of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
