Telemedicine has been selected as a finalist in WSIS Prizes 2017
In a new step towards global success, the Telemedicine Project implemented by the Egyptian ICT Fund and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has reached the final list of WSIS nominations.
The World Summit Contest is an international competition to select the best applications and electronic content, and aims to reduce the electronic gap between the countries of the world. The competition includes representatives from 168 countries from different continents of the world.
The competition is one of the activities associated with the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), a conference run by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which aims to develop a global vision to meet the challenges posed by the Information Society.
The competition is based on multimedia-based projects that effectively and creatively influence cultural, scientific and educational content.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) received an international certificate at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in 2016 in Geneva for the Telemedicine Project as one of the outstanding projects that contribute to the efforts of governments in supporting social and economic development goals using ICT tools.
The project relies on the cloud computing system for telemedicine diagnosis, in a way that helps transfer the medical information needed for diagnosis, treatment and health awareness, including medical images, direct bilateral audio and video files, and medical records of the patient. The system is based on open source free software technologies, and its management relies on cooperation with non-governmental, non-profit, medical and educational institutions.
The project was implemented in the Nuba area in Aswan Governorate and is expected to expand to reach all the border and remote areas in the nation that are in dire need of the medical services provided by the project.
This year (2017) the project has reached the final list of the award, which includes eighteen categories directly related to the information society, where 18 winners will be announced and will be presented to the public to honor them.
